How I discovered most content needs a scalpel, not an AI sledgehammer—and the tool that proves it
Last week, a client was about to feed their highest-performing content into ChatGPT.
The prompt? “Optimize this for AI search.”
I stopped them with one question: “Do you know what’s already working?”
They didn’t. And that’s when I realized: We’re all flying blind.
The Pattern I Keep Seeing
After 15 years in marketing ops—from startups to Fortune 500s—I’ve learned to spot patterns. Here’s the one that made me build a tool:
Smart marketers are taking content that works and letting AI “fix” it.
No diagnosis. No strategy. Just hope that the robot improves what humans built.
But here’s what actually happens: Generic AI output replaces unique insights. Your hard-won expertise gets watered down into Wikipedia-lite. The voice that connects with readers? Gone.
Meanwhile, I noticed something else changing—my own behavior.
When I Stopped Googling
I realized I barely use Google anymore. When I need answers, I go to ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity. They synthesize. They summarize. They give me what I need fast.
My clients are doing it. My network is doing it. Search behavior is fundamentally shifting.
So I asked myself: If everyone’s using AI for answers, how do we make sure OUR content is what AI chooses to share?
That question led me to manually optimize my own website for what’s called GEO—Generative Engine Optimization.
What Happened When I Tested It Myself
Before building anything, I experimented on my own content. Applied GEO principles manually:
- Answer-First Structure: Moved key insights to opening paragraphs
- E-E-A-T Signals: Added specific expertise markers and real examples
- FAQ Sections: Covered related questions people ask
- Clear Structure: Better headings and logical flow
Results over two months:
- 130% increase in referral traffic
- Consistent appearances in Google’s AI-powered overviews
- New leads mentioning they found me through AI-generated answers
But here was the problem: Doing this manually took forever. And when clients started asking, “How can we do this?”—I needed a better answer than “spend hours analyzing each piece.”
So I Built a Diagnostic Tool
My background isn’t in development. But now, AI democratized building. With low-code tools and strategic prompting, I could create what I envisioned.
The GEO Score Analyzer became one of my first real builds—proof that marketers can now solve their own problems instead of waiting for someone else’s solution.
The GEO Score Analyzer does one thing really well: It tells you what to fix before you let AI touch anything.

Here’s How It Works:
- Diagnostic Scoring
- Drop in any content
- Get a 0-100 score instantly
- See exactly where you’re strong/weak
- Strategic Recommendations
- Scoring 70+? Add what’s missing (FAQs, expertise signals)
- Scoring 40-69? Preview the AI’s improvements first
- Scoring under 40? Hit that rewrite button with confidence
- Targeted Enhancements
- E-E-A-T Builder: Helps you add real expertise signals AI can’t invent
- FAQ Generator: Identifies missing questions based on your content
- Dual AI Analysis: Shows how different AI models would optimize differently
The shift? Instead of “rewrite everything,” it’s “enhance what needs enhancing.”
Why This Approach Works
Most AI optimization is like renovating a house with a sledgehammer. Sometimes you need precision tools.
The content that already connects with readers? It probably has intangibles AI can’t replicate:
- Your unique perspective
- Hard-won insights
- Authentic voice
- Real examples
The analyzer helps you keep those while fixing what actually needs fixing:
- Buried answers
- Missing technical markers
- Gaps in coverage
- Structure that confuses AI
This Isn’t About Software—It’s About Strategy
The GEO Score Analyzer isn’t a product I’m selling. It’s an example of what happens when marketers stop accepting limitations and start building solutions.
A year ago, I couldn’t have built this. But AI changed the game—not just in how we create content, but in what we can create, period.
The real lesson? Every “that’s just how it is” problem in your marketing might now have a solvable answer. You just need someone who thinks like a builder.
Because here’s what I believe: The future belongs to marketers who create tools, not just use them.
